Fall and Thanksgiving Tablescape 2014

This is my Fall/Thanksgiving tablescape this year. I actually had this same table setting out for September (changed to my Halloween one) and now it’s back so I’m posting about it.

So there is my table. Let’s talk about the details! The place mats, bronze napkin rings and matching orange and tan napkins I already had from previous years and all were purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond. The leaf place card holders were FREE! I went to a shower and they were the party favors on the table and thankfully 4 of the ladies left theirs behind so I took them home. I don’t have a full set of 6 though unfortunately but I just leave the chair by the doorwall without one and no one seems to notice. Some of them have a bit of green, yellow or orange. Here is a close up of one of them.

I know, I know. I need to actually put name cards in them lol. I’ll get around to it. One day. Eventually. Maybe….

So what’s NEW this year?? DSC_0906

These GORGEOUS real carved wood charger plates are new. They were purchased at Pier One this season and they were NOT cheap. However, I’ve been wanting some chargers like this for awhile now and these were AH-MAAZ-ING so I gave in. To save myself some money I only bought 4 of them and opted to do the captains chairs a little different. I also think it’s just fun to change up the captain’s chairs in any case, regardless of cost. The embossed, distressed cream plates are also from Pier One this season. I think they were $9 or $10 a piece and they’re actually on sale now. Figures. I’ve been scouring home discount stores for awhile looking for a cream, textured plate and haven’t found anything so I bought them here. I bought 6 dinner plates (rather than a whole set). I keep wondering if I should go back and get the salad plates though….Decisions, Decisions.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the green wine glasses were a wedding present (from Bed Bath & Beyond) off my registry.

These woven grass place mats I bought awhile ago from Marshall’s Home Goods and I needed something here so I thought these would do. You may l notice I doubled up on my napkins this year. I bought 6 of these mustard yellow printed leaf patterned napkins from Pier One on clearance for a dollar a piece. NICE! I’ve actually never purchased anything at Pier One before this fall’s little shopping bender. I didn’t realize they had such good clearance items. I bought some other items on clearance as well that you may see at some point and I think I will have to go in there more often. DSC_0903

The centerpiece I already had and I made it with flowers from Michael’s, moss, string and the wood box I bought at TJ Maxx.

Then I have this on my kitchen counter. I love my owl cookie jar 🙂DSC_0910

What stores have a sneaky clearance section that you love to find goodies at??

Fall Decor 2013

I haven’t gotten into decorating for fall too much this year because we’ve been very busy working on finishing our basement. However, I thought I’d share with you some of the little things I’ve done to warm up the place.

First up is this centerpiece I made for my kitchen island. I LOOOOOOVE IT. All of the flowers and fillers are from Michael’s. The wood box I bought at TJ Maxx in June and had planned to put a bunch of white hyndrangeas in it but never got around to it. So I decided to go with the fall themed flowers

I had an extra sunflower left over so I put it in this vase I got on clearance for a penny! Don’t mind the paint chips on the wall. I’m not sure I like any of them and want to pick up a few more. If you have a vote on which you like best let me know 🙂 The two little candles were free from a baby shower I went to recently. The owl cookie jar is something I’ve had for a year or two and I bought that at Home Goods. I’m obsessed with owls.

I bought this super cute sign for the wall next to my bay window in the kitchen from TJ Maxx. I think i was around $16 or something. I don’t have hardly anything on my walls because I’m super picky about what I like. But I love this. There is a little burlap bow at the top that I think is absolutely adorable. I had planned to buy some little acorns or coffee beans to put in the vases with the candles but never go around to it. Such is life.

Here is my fall table decor this year. The runner is sort of a gray/green and cream chevron that I had on the table this summer. I bought the place mats, napkins and napkin rings from Bed Bath & Beyond last fall. The owl vase I bought this year on clearance from Michael’s. The flowers in it were also from Michael’s and there’s about three bushes of the pre-made bouquets in there to make up the arrangement.

Here is my updated fireplace/mantle for fall. The black mirror is a few years old from Home Goods. My husband and I had it hanging up on the wall in our dining room of our condo before we moved to this house and since we’ve lived here it’s been covered in dust in the basement. I just dug it out of the dark whole a couple weeks ago and propped it up on the mantle. I think the black frame compliments the black accents in our kitchen. The stick pumpkin is from TJ Maxx and the other two are both from Home Goods.

In my foyer I just added this burlap runner that I had on my kitchen table last year along with the vase of sunflowers that was the centerpiece on my kitchen table last year. The little green vase was on clearance for a penny and the brown flower was an extra I had from building my kitchen island centerpiece. The little wood/leather trunk was also on clearance for a penny so I added that also.

Also in my foyer is a neglected corner. I got these two baskets on clearance for a penny and didn’t know what to do with them so I stuck them there for now.

Last but not least is my front door wreath that I made last year. Everything I used to make the wreath was bought at Michaels.Fall 2013

Starting a Collage Wall

I’m in some serious need of some wall art in my house. The only place I have hung ANYTHING on the walls is the laundry room and my half bath. So I was pretty anxious to get my gallery wall started. Here is what it looked like a few hours ago…

And here is what it looks like now! Big improvement if you ask me and I’m just getting started.

The empty gold frame I actually picked out of someone’s garbage. It was covered in dirt, bugs, webs and was half falling apart. I hot glued the corners together and cleaned it up and it matches my mirrored buffet perfectly with the gold accents. It’s still slightly dirty, and definitely looks aged which I kind of like so I left it like that. I bought the other two frames from TJ Maxx and together they were around $18. We decided to put two pictures from our wedding in there. Inside the empty gold frame I plan to put our last initial inside of it and hang it from a piece of ribbon. I have to go to the craft store and find a letter I like still.

Something about hanging pictures on the wall that makes it feel much more home-y.

Here are some close ups of the frames if you want to see the detail more. Over time I will add more pictures and decorations in different finishes and styles for an eclectic look.
